CIMSPA leads on regulating sport and physical activity apprenticeships

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) has been appointed as the External Quality Assurance (EQA) provider for the end point assessment of five sport and physical activity sector apprenticeship standards.

The appointment places CIMSPA on the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education’s (IfATE) Register of EQA Providers, alongside other regulators including Ofqual, the Construction Industry Training Board and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

The EQA function that CIMSPA is now responsible for monitors and audits the assessment that apprentices undertake at the end of their learning, in line with IfATE guidance. The process ensures that end point assessment is fair, consistent and robust across different apprenticeship standards and between different assessment organisations.

The move will enhance our ability to support those delivering apprenticeships in sport and physical activity and our quality assurance will ensure that apprentices receive the highest quality learning experiences.

“This is an important step for CIMSPA that follows on from our partnership with the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) as a Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Body,” says Colin Huffen, Head of Regulation and Standards at CIMSPA. “We are now in a position to assess and guide the quality of both apprenticeships and higher education courses across the sport and physical activity sector.”

The five apprenticeships standards involved are:

·         Community Activator Coach

·         Community Sport and Health Officer

·         Leisure Duty Manager

·         Leisure Team Member

·         Personal Trainer
