EuropeActive unveils its medium-term objectives and future plans

Brussels, Belgium, 17th June 2020

EuropeActive, Europe’s most influential not-for profit organisation representing the whole of the European fitness and physical activity sector, discussed its mid-term goals, Covid-19 initiatives and long-term aspirations at today’s webinar where media partners had the chance to pose questions to the Executive Team. EuropeActive members, stakeholders and supporters were also allowed to participate in this open session via the Q&A chat moderated by EuropeActive Board member Jennifer Halsall-de Wit (Basic-Fit International).

EuropeActive Executive Director Andreas Paulsen opened the webinar by introducing media representatives and presenting EuropeActive’s revised mission and vision. David Stalker, EuropeActive President, also highlighted the organisation’s quick response to Covid-19 lockdown: “We reacted this crisis by consulting and communicating with consumers, members and stakeholders. We also reviewed our standards and digital infrastructure with the focus placed on having an immediate response and a good reference point for our sector”.

The Executive Team answered excellent questions posed by media representatives Liz Terry (Health Club Management), Barbara Smit (Fitness News Europe) and Inés Ledo (Gym Factory) revealing intentions post Covid-19 in terms of membership, the unity of the sector during the crisis and the importance of fitness initiatives like #BEACTIVE HOUR: “We will be pleased to welcome all organisations working towards health-enhancing physical activity, but we need to be cautious when involving other sectors”,  said Andreas Paulsen. This crisis also reflected how positively the sector has reacted: “For the first time, trade associations truly worked together bringing some fantastic ideas to the table. The #BEACTIVE HOUR also reached political levels, with the European Commission fully embracing this initiative”, commented David Stalker.

Media partners also referred to specific questions on how to put the strategy in practice, the importance of consumer insights and digital inclusion: “The strategic plan is going to require generosity from industry, investment will be needed to accomplish our objectives. Consumer insights and the new digital ecosystem will definitely be addressed in our long-term strategy. We’re currently seeking to strengthen our data collection infrastructure to generate a constant stream of data across Europe”, assured the Executive Team.

Executive Director Andreas Paulsen wrapped-up the session by thanking attendees and reaffirming EuropeActive’s work on member and educational services, European affairs, projects and programmes.
