Independent gym company, Fierce Gym shares its growth plans following a successful first year in business. Despite opening during the toughest time for the health sector with extended lockdowns, the 1.3million pound investment from Fierce owners has proved a success having achieved its membership targets and scooping three accolades within its first year of business.
Awarded ‘Best Independent Gym’ at the Prestige Awards, Fierce Gym’s expansion plans are underway as owners Paul and Jess Tomlinson have their sights set on acquiring a second site within the year. Having already built a special programme that works alongside local GP surgeries to help clinically obese patients form healthy habits around exercise, Fierce are now in the process of creating a charity that focuses on the education of exercise for children and disadvantaged young adults to keep them on the right path in life.
As newcomers to a large site gym, owners Jess and Paul Tomlinson are no newcomers when it comes to business and the fitness industry. Having sold a highly successful IT business in 2019, Paul Tomlinson invested 1.3 million pounds into the first-ever Fierce site in Milton Keynes – and Co-Founder, Jess Tomlinson has 10 years’ experience in the fitness industry as a personal trainer operating from a small facility, alongside competing at a high level as a female bodybuilder and powerlifter – of which Jess won numerous titles and was invited to represent the UK at an international level.
The 20,000 sq ft gym in Milton Keynes provides a cutting-edge gym experience catering for a wide range of specialist training, as well as housing equipment for conventional exercise. Fierce Gym has a carefully planned layout that is split across two floors and includes separate studios for classes, seminars, and the Fit 3D Body Scanner. The ground floor boasts the latest weight training equipment and includes over 11,000kg of weight plates, dumbbells up to 105kg and over 600kg of IPF approved Eleiko calibrated weights – ideal for those in training for Bodybuilding, Powerlifting or Strongman and Woman. The first floor is equipped with cardio machines which surround open spaces for HIIT and a large rig for callisthenics.
The forward-thinking gym has created a dedicated fitness facility unlike other gyms in the area, and with plans to roll out the concept to other locations outside of Milton Keynes, Fierce Gym is disrupting the affordable fitness industry and how people train with a supportive community.
Paul Tomlinson, Co-Founder of Fierce Gym comments, “We are delighted with the number of members we achieved within our first year. We provide an affordable gym with an edgy vibe which has shaken up the way people look at exercise.”
Paul continues, “Lockdown presented us with an opportunity to get the space and offering right – and during a time where people were stuck at home unable to use equipment, we felt providing the best equipment was key. We invested a lot of money into state-of-the-art equipment, a huge selection of weights and some fun and unique things for members to use during training – such as our climbing wall and the Fierce car for the ultimate Strongman challenge. We’re excited to roll out our concept in a second site and offer even more people a unique space to train.”
Jess Tomlinson Co-Founder of Fierce Gym comments, “As someone who competes, the environment I train in is important. A huge part of our business plan and the offering was to provide a space for people serious about training yet creating a non-judgmental and supportive community of people – including those new to weight training. We’re proud to have achieved just that and the gym has a fantastic buzz. We’ve experienced a roaring return to fitness, and this gives us high hopes for our future expansion plans.”
Fierce Gym opened the largest independent gym in Milton Keynes in July 2020 providing a great space for people to train. Co-founders Paul and Jess Tomlinson share a passion for fitness and a vision to continue developing a community that supports Fierce’s members regardless of their fitness experience or preferred fitness discipline.
