Sector Backs Workforce Mental Health Pledge

Employers representing a broad spectrum of organisational types are signing up to The Good Work Pledge and publicly declared a commitment to working towards positive change that supports a mentally wealthy culture.

“It’s fantastic that employers are seeing the value in this collective commitment.” says Lindsey Simpson, Co Founder of Workplace Mental Wealth and The Good Work Pledge. “Earlier this year, we asked the fitness and active leisure workforce and employers for their views on, and experiences of, mental health in our Workforce State of Mind Survey, the first of its kind for the sector. It identified that action is needed right now to help us better meet the needs of our people as they navigate the route out of the pandemic and into the future.

“In response to this, we launched The Good Work Pledge to encourage employers to work towards achieving 6 Mental Health Core standards as outlined in the government backed, Thriving At Work Report, 2017.”

Employers signing up to The Pledge receive a number of resources. These include: an official logo to help promote the commitment they have made to their team, partners, members and the wider community, plus, a Mental Health Planning Guide and a Diagnostic Tool to support practical planning and implementation to drive positive charge.

The Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (CIMSPA) is backing the State of Mind Survey and is also an early signature of The Pledge. Tara Dillion CEO, CIMSPA, says: “Our talented and committed workforce, like the rest of the world, is just emerging from a pandemic that has disrupted lives on a level that most of us have never known before.

“Everyone’s experience has been different and everyone will need different support as we start our recovery drive. It is important that, as employers we adopt a holistic approach to employee wellbeing, placing mental health on a par with physical health. The Good Work Pledge is a great way to unite together and declare a commitment to drive happiness, health and prosperity.”
